Iran is currently experiencing widespread unrest, with protests reported in many cities. There have been significant reports of violence, arrests, injuries, and loss of life, alongside restrictions on communication and internet access. These events are ongoing and continue to evolve.

This situation is having an impact on the wellbeing of some Iranian and Kurdish residents living in the UK. Healthwatch Westminster has been made aware that some individuals, particularly women, are experiencing heightened levels of anxiety, stress, and emotional distress related to concerns for family members and loved ones in Iran, as well as uncertainty around the situation and difficulties maintaining contact.

Middle Eastern Women & Society Organisation (MEWSO) has shared that they are able to offer support to women affected by these events. MEWSO provides culturally sensitive advice, group counselling, and coaching services across London, with a particular focus on Westminster, Islington, and Hackney. Their team includes Farsi-speaking advisors and counsellors with lived and cultural understanding of the current context.

Residents or service users who feel they may benefit from this support can be referred directly to MEWSO via their website: www.mewso.org. The organisation has advised that they are currently able to respond promptly to referrals and offer support to those affected.
